cities of the USA
As we have already known, the
United States of America
is a very diverse country. Among the USA’s
biggest cities are New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Detroit, Boston, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Washington.
The capital of the USA as you know of course is Washington
in the district of Columbia.
It’s an administrative city without much industry. The American capital has a
lot of places of interests. One should visit the Lincoln Memorial, the White
House, the Capitol and lots of others.
New York
is the largest city and a port in the United States. It’s one of the
financial and business centres of the world. It’s famous for its skyscrapers.
One of the most famous statues in the world stands on the island in New York Harbor. It’s the Statue of Liberty.
The second biggest city of
the USA is Los
Angeles in California.
Not far from Los Angeles is Hollywood, the centre of the movie industry.
The city has four of five busiest highways in North
America. Los Angeles
is not only film centre but also business, industrial, trade and criminal
centre.
San Francisco on the Pacific coast is a big
port and shipbuilding centre. It’s famous for its bridges, fog and bills. Don’t
leave San Francisco
without seeing the structure that has become its symbol – The Golden Bridge. Chicago is the third largest city in the USA. The third
world’s tallest building Sears
Tower (442 m) is there. Chicago is one of the
industrial centres and the biggest ports. It’s also the chief railroad centre
of the USA.
Philadelphia was the first capital of the USA and here
the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Nowadays is the fourth
largest city in the USA.
It’s famous for its museums, art galleries, concert halls, theatres. That’s why
it has nicknamed the “Athens of America”.
Boston
is situated on the Atlantic coast of the USA. Speaking about Boston we have to say about very important historically
so-called Boston Tea-Party in 1773 and of course about one of the oldest and
the most respected among American Universities – Harvard University.
Detroit
is the oldest city of the Great
Lake cities. Detroit is a major
automobile, manufacturing centre. Its nickname is the “Motor City”.
The famous Ford automobile empire was founded here. The capital of Texas in Houston., the state largest city and leading port, it’s
the centre of oil and aerospace research, the centre of NASA (National
Aeronautics and Space Administration). Houston
is home of a symphony orchestra, ballet and opera.
